May 2nd - The lead changed hands again at the top of the Premier Division table. Previous leaders Galway United slipped to a two-nil defeat to St Patricks Athletic. Goals from Kian Leavy and Zach Elbouzedi sent Stephen Kenny's side top of the table for the first time this season. Drogheda United let a two goal lead slip in Sligo settling for a point instead. Drogs were two up through goals from Conor Keeley and Thomas Oluwa but Owen Elding pulled one back before James Bolger's own goal ensured the spoils were shared. Shamrock Rovers are third but saw another lead thrown away in Cork. Rory Gaffney opened the scoring for the visitors but the Hoops' failure to add a second was punished when Freddie Anderson equalised in the final quarter. Stephen Bradley's side have now been ahead in the second half of their last four games but ending up winning none of those. Shelbourne's title defence his more problems in Derry - goals from Michael Duffy and Liam Boyce condemned Damien Duff's side to a second defeat of the season but seven draws so far leaves them in sixth place. Tiernan Lynch's side climbed to fifth with that win. Bohemians winning run came to an end as managerless Waterford won two-one at Dalymount. Ahead of John Coleman's appointment, Tommy Lonergan scored a second half winner that gave the Blues a fifth win of the season. A third draw in four games has halted Dundalk's early season momentum. They were held scoreless by Athlone. Their lead increased to four points though as Bray lost two-one at Cobh Ramblers. Cian Bargary scored the winner for the home side four minutes into injury time at St Colman's Park. Kerry won one-nil at UCD to climb off the foot of the table. Treaty United are up to fourth in the table after a two-nil win at Finn Harps. Emmanuel James scored a winner in injury time on Saturday night as Longford Town beat Wexford two-one. Another ten-pointer bit the dust with that late goal... The timely use of a joker scoreline sees David Doyle lead the May competition on 30 points. On a low scoring Friday night, he's three points clear of Brian Boyle and Neil Walsh who share second place. Francis Gilligan is fourth with Ross Williams completing the early top five: |

May 5th to 9th - Two wins in four days sent Shamrock Rovers back to the top of the table. A two-nil win at home to Sligo was followed by a three-nil win over Drogheda United. Aaron Greene scored in both games for the Hoops, meaning he's scored either 100 or 101 league goals depending on whether you count a goal in Dundalk in 2023 as his or an own goal... Rovers are ahead of a revitalised Derry City who also picked up six points. They beat St Patricks Athletic one-nil on Monday night and followed that up with a two-one win in Cork. Tim Clancy resigned from the hot seat Leeside after that defeat. St Patricks Athletic inconsistent run continued. Friday night saw them suffer a second defeat of the week - they were ahead in Tolka Park through Mason Melia's opener but second half goals from Harry Wood and Kerr McInroy gave Shelbourne a first win in seven. Their game earlier in the week saw them lose at home to Waterford. John Coleman was then in the dugout on Friday night as the Blues beat Galway one-nil. Galway had been top of the table on Monday in running when they lead Bohemians one-nil. However with that lead turning into a two-one defeat and a loss in Waterford, John Caulfield's side dropped to eighth in the table. Bohemians second last minute winner of the week came on Saturday night in Sligo. Lys Mousset scored the only goal in the Showgrounds as Alan Reynolds' side moved to within two points of the leaders. Dundalk's early season form suggested a quick return to the top division. However, an indifferent run of results recently has seen the chasing pack close in a little. The Lilywhites needed an injury time equaliser to rescue a two-all draw with Bray Wanderers on Friday night. Cobh Ramblers climbed to second in the table with a two-nil win over Wexford. Athlone Town moved off the bottom of the table with a two-nil at Finn Harps. Longford Town are now bottom on goal difference despite a one-all draw at UCD. Colin Healy's managerial reign at Kerry began with a one-nil win over Treaty United. That'll go down well in the Kingdom... A score of 69 points from the week's games saw Brian Mason move into top spot on the May leaderboard. He's two points ahead of last week's leader David Doyle. Andy Dunne has climbed to third place with Kevin Nolan in fourth. Fifth place is shared by Darragh Kenny and Gary Parsons. Full details below: |

May 16th and 17th - A three-one win in Waterford sent Shamrock Rovers two points clear at the top of the Premier Division. Padraig Amond opened the scoring for the hosts but Rory Gaffney equalised for the visitors. Goals in the final quarter from substitutes Michael Noonan and Graham Burke earned a good three points on the road for Stephen Bradley's side ahead of their meeting with St Patricks Athletic on Monday night. Derry City needed a late equaliser from Dom Thomas to earn a point in Drogheda. The cup holders looked like repeating their Aviva victory, leading through Elicha Ahui's opener, but they weren't able to celebrate Kevin Doherty's new contract with a win. Bohemians joined Derry in second place with a one-nil win over faltering Shelbourne. Dayle Rooney scored the only goal of the game from the spot as Damien Duff did his best Enoch Burke impression, looking on from a grassy knoll behind the goal as he served a suspension. There was heartbreak for Cork City as St Patricks Athletic scored twice in injury time to turn defeat into victory. Jamie Lennon scored the winner in the 95th minute as the Inchicore side stayed four points behind the leaders. The final game in the Premier Division saw Sligo Rovers win in Galway. Reece Hutchinson scored the only goal as John Russell's side won for just the third time this season. In the first division, first met second as Dundalk won two-one in Cobh. Dundalk were two up at half-time through Horgan and Arubi. Cobh pulled one back in the second half but the leaders held out for the win. Bray Wanderers are now second in the table - they strolled to an easy victory at home to bottom side Athlone Town. The final score in the Carlisle Grounds was three-one to Paul Hefferan's in-form side. Elsewhere, UCD received a lesson as the students crashed to a four-nil defeat at Treaty United. The two other games ended in draws - a late equaliser gave Wexford a one-all draw in Kerry. Saturday night's game was one for the purists - Longford Town and Finn Harps playing out a scoreless draw at Bishopsgate. A score of 36 points was enough for David Doyle to regain top spot in May. He has an eight point lead over Brian Mason in second place. An excellent score of 50 points has Greg Donaghy in the mix in third place. Kevin Nolan and Andy Dunne complete the top five for the month so far: |

May 23rd - Five wins on the bounce have left Shamrock Rovers six points clear at the top of the Premier Division table. A four-nil win at home to St Patricks Athletic and a two-one win in Derry rounded off a great week for the Tallaght side. The Hoops had to come from behind to win in the Brandywell - Aaron McEneff scored the winner with just a couple of minutes to go, sending the travelling contingent back down the N2 very happy. Drogheda regained second place with a one-nil win at home to Bohemians. Douglas-James Taylor scored the winner from the spot as Kevin Doherty's side made it four points in a week after a nil-all draw at Shelbourne on Monday night. Both Shelbourne and St Patricks Athletic are nine points off the pace. Damien Duff's side beat Sligo three-two with John Martin notching a hat-trick in Tolka Park. St Patricks Athletic faltered again, drawing two-all at home with Waterford. Mason Melia scored twice but the Inchicore side were denied a win by Coonan Noonan's equaliser. Galway United rounded off Friday's action with a two-one win at home to Cork City - goals from Moses Dyer and Conor McCormack gave them all three points in the Caulfield Derby. Dundalk's lead in the first division is now six points. They had a straightforward two-nil win at home to Kerry. Bray lost at home to Wexford - the Slaneysiders coming out on top by a two-one scoreline. That defeat allowed Cobh Ramblers to regain second place - they won three-two at in-turmoil Athlone. Treaty United were among the goals beating Longford Town five-one. Lee Devitt scored three in that one, the second hat-trick scorer of the evening. UCD picked up a much needed win, winning two-one at Finn Harps. Mikey Raggett scored the winner from the spot in the sixth minute of injury time in Ballybofey. Some good news for the Inchicore faithful with Kevin Nolan moving to to spot in the monthly competition. David Doyle is now in second place, five points off the lead. The top five is completed by Andy Dunne, Darragh Kenny and Greg Donaghy - next Friday's games will decide the monthly winner for May: |

May 30th - Shamrock Rovers remain six points clear despite dropping points at home to Galway United. The Hoops couldn't find a way through against a well-drilled defence on a sunny evening in Tallaght as the game finished nil-all. It was also a draw down in Waterford where the hosts shared the points with second placed Drogheda. Goals from Tommy Lonergan and Padraig Amond looked to have given John Coleman's side the win but Warren Davis and Conor Keeley rescued a point for the Boynesiders. Bohemians are level on points with Drogheda and could move into second place if they win their game in hand. Dayle Rooney scored the only goal at Dalymount, converting a very early penalty to earn a one-nil win against Derry. Bohs are the only side yet to draw a game this season as we reach the halway point. St Patricks Athletic also earned a one-nil win courtesy of a penalty. Aidan Keena converted from the spot on his return to Sligo. Pats are fourth and seven points behind the leaders after that win. Shelbourne's faltering title defence continued with a one-all draw in Cork. They needed an equaliser from Ali Coote to earn a point after Sean Maguire had opened the scoring for the Leesiders. The top three in the first division all recorded wins. Dundalk won three-two at Wexford - the winning goal came two minutes from time from Luke Mulligan. Cobh Ramblers remain in second place after a two-one win at home to Treaty United. Bray Wanderers are third after beating Finn Harps three-one at the Carlisle Grounds. UCD moved ahead of Wexford in the final playoff place after a two-nil win at home to Athlone Town. It was the same scoreline in Mounthawk Park where Kerry got the better of Longford Town. Andy Dunne picked up 55 points from the final round of games in May to win the monthly competition. He had nine points to spare over Greg Donaghy in second place with David Doyle a point further back in third. Kevin Nolan and Darragh Kenny completed the top five for the month: |
