June 12th and 13th - It was a good return to the league after the summer break for St Patricks Athletic. Goals from Kian Leavy and Zach Elbouzedi gave the Inchicore side a two-nil win over Drogheda United. Even better news for Stephen Kenny's side came with defeats for Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians. Rovers squandered plenty of possession and chances as they lost two-one to Shelbourne in Tolka Park. That was just a second home win of the season for the hosts. Bohemians took the lead away to Derry but then surrendered four goals including two for former player James Clarke (who missed a penalty to complete his hat trick). Those results leave Rovers five clear of Pats who have a game in hand with Alan Reynolds' side a further point back. Elsewhere, Padraig Amond proved that class is permanent as he scored a hat-trick as Waterford picked up a much needed three points with a four-nil win at home to Sligo Rovers. Dundalk's away game with Galway ended up being played in Turner's Cross - Tyreke Wilson scored another late winner for Ciaran Kilduff's side who are just eight points off top spot with a game in hand. In the first division, late goals from Hans Mpongo and Ruairi Keating gave Cork City a two-nil win on the road in Wexford. The Leesiders' lead remains at twelve points. UCD are clear now in second place - they recorded an excellent five-nil win away at Finn Harps. Bray Wanderers climbed to third in the table after coming from two down to earn a point at Treaty United. Kerry picked up just their fourth win of the season - Ryan Perez scoring the only goal at Mounthawk Park as Athlone were beaten one-nil. The weekend's final game on Saturday night saw Longford Town climb to fifth in the table with a two-one win at home to Cobh Ramblers. The first leaderboard for June sees John Brophy lead the way on 52 points. He has a five point lead over three people - Darragh Kenny, myself and Joseph Kavanagh. Gerry Moore, a point further back, completes the top five so far: |

June 19th - The top two both recorded two-nil wins in differing circumstances on Friday night. Leaders Shamrock Rovers had a straightforward two-nil win in Waterford - goals from Dylan Watts and Michael Noonan gave the Hoops a good win away from home. St Patricks Athletic needed two goals in injury time to see off the challenge of Sligo Rovers. Despite dominating possession, the Inchicore only broke through in the 93rd and 94th minutes with goals from Joe Redmond and Chris Forrester. The gap at the top remains five points with Pats having a game in hand. Dundalk are third in the table. Eoin Kenny completed a good night for the Kenny family when he scored a late winner at Dalymount as Bohemians let slip another lead, losing two-one. The pressure cranked up a bit further on Tiernan Lynch ahead of Monday's trip to Tallaght. His Derry City side lost two-one in Galway, the first game in Pearse Stadium. The final game in the top division saw the points shared in Drogheda. Harry Wood scored twice but Shelbourne had to settle for a point in a two-all draw. Cork City's return to the Premier Division moved a step closer with a four-nil win at home to Treaty United. The league leaders moved fifteen points clear at the top as UCD slipped to a surprise one-nil defeat at home to Kerry, ruining many a Friday night accumulator and ending my chances in a last man standing competition... Ben McCormack was among the goals again as Bray Wanderers beat Longford Town five-two. The Seasiders remain third in the table, just two points behind UCD. Cobh Ramblers came from behind to beat Finn Harps three-one at St Colmans Park. They're comfortable in the playoff positions with a six-point cushion from sixth place. The final game in the first division this weekend saw the points shared by Athlone Town and Wexford following a two-all draw. An excellent score of 67 points this weeks sees Tommy Hamill lead the June competition on 104 points. He's seven points clear of myself with Derek McDonald a point further back in third place. Two points further back are Cillian O'Reilly and Darragh Kenny who share fourth place - full details below: |

June 22nd to 27th - In a week where the European qualfiers played two games, Shamrock Rovers ended the month with a seven point lead at the top of the table. Rovers were fortunate enough to earn a point against Derry on Monday night - Aaron Greene rescued a point late on after Liam Boyce had given the visitors a first half lead. The Hoops were much better on Friday night beating Galway three-one - that man Greene was on the scoresheet again along with John McGovern and Michael Noonan. Two wins saw Bohemians climb to second in the table - a three-nil win against Shelbourne in Tolka Park was swiftly followed by Joey O'Brien's departure from the hot seat. Bohs then beat St Patricks Athletic two-nil on Friday night. Goals from Colm Whelan and Ross Tierney capped a great week for the Gypsies. Pats have two games in hand and could close the gap to Rovers to just three points if they win both. How they play while the other two contenders are busy in Europe will have a big bearing on this season's title race. Game of the week was arguably in Dundalk where Waterford came from two goals down to earn an unlikely three-two victory. Graham Coughlan's side have reduced the gap on Sligo Rovers to just two points. The Bit'o'Red might regret letting a two goal lead slip against Shelbourne on Saturday night, settling for a point in the end. Derry City's return to the Brandywell was marked with a two-nil win at home to Drogheda United. Cork City beat Bray Wanderers two-nil to remain fifteen points clear at the top of the first division. A goal in each half from Ruairi Keating earned the home side the three points. UCD bounced back from last week's defeat to beat Cobh Ramblers two-nil in Belfield. Wexford couldn't take advantage of defeats for the two sides above them - they dropped two points at home to Treaty United. The points were also shared when Athlone Town and Finn Harps drew one-all with both sides finishing with ten men. The final game in the first division saw Kerry beat Longford Town two-one. The Kingdom side are only two points outside the playoffs. Tommy Hamill held off the challenges of Brian Donnelly and Derek McDonald to win the monthly contest for June. The gap in the end was just three points. John Brophy finished fourth with Darragh Kenny and Jimmy Maguire sharing fifth spot - full details below: |
