June 13th - Shamrock Rovers stretched their lead to six points following a big win in Tolka Park on Friday night. A tough week for Josh Honohan went from bad to worse when he headed into his own net to cancel out Daniel Cleary's opener. However, he showed respect, humility and class to fire home a late winner for Stephen Bradley's side. Defending champions Shelbourne are now twelve points off the lead with a tough run of games ahead of Europe. A testing time for Damien Duff and his squad.... Bohemians are the unlikely title challengers - if they win their game in hand they'll be just three points off the lead. A two-nil win in Cork on Friday night leaves Alan Reynolds clear in second place. They still haven't drawn a game this season with eleven wins and eight defeats from their nineteen games played so far. St Patricks Athletic's season is still to ignite. They were held to a scoreless draw by Drogheda on Friday night. Mason Melia missed from the spot in that one. It finished one-all in Derry where Kevin Holt equalised David Hurley's opener from the spot for the visitors. Sligo Rovers moved off the bottom of the table with a one-nil win over Waterford on Saturday night. Wilson Waweru scored the winner for John Russell's side. Treaty United were the only winners in the first division this weekend with four of the games ending in draws. Leaders Dundalk were held to a one-all draw in Oriel Park. Harry Groome's opener was cancelled out by Adam Verdon's equaliser for the students. Cobh Ramblers looked to be narrowing the gap on the leaders until Francis Campbell scored a 94th minute equaliser for Longford. Treaty United have a five point cushion in the playoff positions after that win at home to Bray. Ian Ryan's first game in charge at Athlone saw them draw two-all at home to Kerry. Further up the road in Donegal, it finished one-all between Finn Harps and Wexford. Seven draws in the ten games this weekend meant it was a relatively low scoring weekend. Jamie Galvin, however, picked up an excellent score of 51 points to lead the monthly competition. Gavin Doherty is in second place, nine points off the lead. Brian Mason and Paul Moore share third spot, a point further back. |

June 20th - Shamrock Rovers head to Dalymount Park on Monday with an eleven point over the rest. The Hoops won two-one in Drogheda on Monday night and followed that up with a comfortable four-one win at home to Cork City on Friday night. Michael Noonan bagged two in that one, adding to his growing reputation. Drogheda are second in the table - they bounced back from that defeat on Monday night with a one-nil win at home to Sligo Rovers on Friday night - Douglas James Taylor scored the only goal as Kevin Doherty's side put their European difficulties to one side for a while. The high point of Damien Duff's reign came following a one-nil win in Derry last November. A one-nil defeat at home to the same side on Friday was followed by a shock departure by the Shels manager. Despite the prospect of a Champions League tie against Linfield to come, Duffer decided it was time to leave Tolka Park. His side are fifteen points behind the leaders with little or no prospect of defending their title. St Patricks Athletic are also fifteen points off top spot - they suffered a second defeat of the season in Galway, losing three-one. Stephen Kenny's side are as close to the relegation play off spot as they are to top spot. Friday's other game in the top division saw Bohemians lose two-one in Waterford. Goals at the end of the first half from Padraig Amond and Conan Noonan gave the Blues three points to keep them eleven points clear of the play off relegation place. For the third time this season, Dundalk failed to beat Treaty United. Harry Groome's goal inside the final five minutes looked to be earning them another three points but Mark Walsh's injury time goal sent the Limerick side home with a point. Cobh Ramblers cut their lead to just four points after beating UCD three-nil at Belfield. Consecutive defeats for Bray Wanderers leave the Wicklow side nine points off the lead. They conceded after just twelve seconds in a two-one defeat at Kerry. Longford Town picked up a surprise three points winning one-nil at Wexford. The bottom two sides, Athlone Town and Finn Harps, finished scoreless. Derek McDonald's ironically titled team now leads the June competition with 79 points. He's five points clear of Tommy Hamill with David Doyle now in third place. Brian Mason and Jamie Galvin complete the top five so far: |

June 23rd - Leaders Shamrock Rovers have lost four games this season - three of those have come against Bohemians. The latest instalment of the gypsies' curse came with a two-nil defeat at Dalymount Park. Both goals came in the first half through Dayle Rooney and James Clarke. Alan Reynolds' side can close to within three points of the leaders if they win their two games in hand. A great weekend for Derry saw them record a second win in Dublin. This time, Liam Boyce scored the winner at St Patricks Athletic. The Candystripes also have two games in hand and will be five points off top spot if they win both of those. Life without Damien Duff (RIP) began with a two-all draw for Shelbourne in Waterford. Harry Wood scored both goals as the champions came from behind twice to earn a point. It also finished level in Turners Cross where Djaneiro Daniels scored an injury time equaliser for Cork City at home to Drogheda United. They're four points adrift of Sligo Rovers who won a second consecutive home match - Francely Lomboto scored the winner against Galway in that one. Moses Dyer celebrated his last game before a move to Cambodia with a goal and a red card. Dundalk's unbeaten run in the first division came to an end at the hands of Finn Harps. Gradi Lomboto scored the penalty which gave the Lilywhites a first defeat in twenty games. Cobh Ramblers moved to within a point of top spot with a one-nil win over Kerry. The top two meet in Oriel Park on Friday night. Bray Wanderers' challenge has gone off the rails in recent weeks - they lost for the third game in a row with UCD winning three-one at the Carlisle Grounds. Longford Town won the midlands derby beating Athlone Town three-two. It finished scoreless in Limerick between Treaty United and Wexford. |

June 27th and 28th - Rory Gaffney came off the bench to score a late winner as Shamrock Rovers beat Waterford one-nil at Tallaght. A tight game was decided when Gaffney swept home a rebound from Danny Mandroiu's shot with a quarter of an hour to go. The win was enough to re-establish the Hoops' eleven point lead at the top of the table. Bohemians needed an injury time equaliser from James Clarke to earn a point at home to Sligo. Owen Elding's wonderstrike looked like giving Sligo a big three points on the road until Clarke headed home in injury time. There was still time for Dawson Devoy to hit the crossbar but the home side had to settle for their first draw of the season. Derry's good run continued with a three-nil win at home to Drogheda. Like Bohemians, they could move to within five points of the leaders if they win both their games in hand. Shelbourne were denied a win in Galway by a late equaliser by Robbie Burns. Joey O'Brien's side looked like earning all three points through Mipo Odubeko's fifth goal of the season before they were pegged back later on. St Patricks Athletic are seventeen points off the lead after a nil-all draw in Cork. That's five games without a win for many peoples' pre-season favourites for the title! Dundalk hosted Cobh Ramblers in the big game at the top of the first division. Gbemi Arubi's early goal was enough to send the Lilywhites four points clear at the top of the table. Bray Wanderers poor recent run came to an end with an emphatic four-nil win at Athlone. Treaty United and UCD occupy the final two playoff places. The Limerick side suffered a surprise defeat home to improving Finn Harps. UCD rounded off the month with a good two-nil win in Longford on Saturday night. Game of the weekend was definitely in Wexford. A first half hat-trick from Sean McGrath and a red card for the hosts saw Kerry lead three-one at half-time. However, Mikey Rowe scored twice in the second half as Wexford came back to win four-three. Not content with dominating the overall competition, Niall O'Donoghue won the June monthly competition as well. He picked up 75 points from the two rounds of games played this week to win by just two points from Gavin Doherty. Derek McDonald was two points further back in third place with Tommy Hamill and Christopher Uzell completing the top five for the month. Full details below: |
